I was injured in not one but two accidents less than 120 days apart, both caused by the other party and both with a minimum of insurance that was most definitely not sufficient for the damage that was done. My vehicle was totaled and I was injured severely in multiple places on my body. The first one an out of control driver crossed a double yellow line and hit me at over 50 miles an hour on the driver’s side at my door all the way down my Suburban picking it up, nearly flipping it and spinning it three times into oncoming traffic where I was hit again by an 18 wheeler. The second occurred while my wife was taking me to a doctor’s appointment for the first accident, a person texting on her phone hit the rear of my wife’s Toyota at 40mph while we were stopped at a red light, never touching her brakes.

I am self-employed, award winning and nationally recognized in my fields of work and that added another complexity to the case, on top of the fact that I was paying for the medical out of my own pocket.

One of my treating Doctors noted all of this and suggested that I look for an attorney, because as he put it, “this is going to get very complex and very messy and the insurance companies will play dirty.” Having not been in an accident for well over 30 years I had no clue how the insurance system worked. I began a search starting with one of my closest friends, it was suggested I look at Randy Walton amongst a few other names, one of my treating Doctors recognized the name when it came up in conversation and he also recommended him, after searching, interviewing Randy among several other attorneys and talking to a few lawyer friends I settled on Randy and Sarah.

It was a very good selection, I have had the need to use other attorneys for other matters and right away I could tell Randy was one of the few that is very straight forward, well educated in his field, well respected by his peers and the most important of all caring about his clients, his legal assistant Sarah was also just as caring and ready to inform when she could and in those rare instances that she couldn’t she made sure that Randy got back to me. He took the time to explain the complexities that likely would become issues, (they did), to inform and educate me regarding what was going to happen and what I needed to do. Both he and Sarah checked in on me from time to time to see how I was doing, to lend their support and just to let me know that my case was still right up on the front burner.

Issues started early, first one of the insurance companies of one of the individuals that hit me started trying to play hard ball, especially when they found out that I was paying for my own health care, wanting me to negotiate my emergency hospital stay and ambulance ride bill down for them and threatening that they would not pay even though we had already reached their insureds maximum. Randy stepped in calmed me down and got the insurance company to place their insureds maximum on the table. Then my own insurance company tried to limit their exposure. Randy again stepped in and got that issue under control. Finally the third insurance company tried to paper blizzard us and act like they were going to fight our demand, Randy got them to understand that would not be a wise course of action.

To shorten this already long story, Randy had everything ready as if we were going to trial, but since we could only arbitrate the case, we were well ahead of the other side. Mediation was proposed the other side accepted and walked into mediation basically unprepared. The mediator right away praised all of Randy’s work and preparation as well as his reality of what Randy believed the case was worth. We walked out with more than we had anticipated, and I was extremely happy with the outcome, really, I was ecstatic.

To say Randy is good is an understatement, he is among the tops in his field, on top of that he has caring and empathy and works hard to see that the wrong is righted and the little guy really does have a fighting chance.
