IF I COULD GIVE NEGATIVE STARS, I WOULD. DO NOT HIRE THIS ATTORNEY IF YOU ARE A MALE IN A CONTESTED DIVORCE! THIS ATTORNEY WITHHELD FINANCIAL INFORMATION ABOUT MY EX. I have dealt with many Shysters (Attorneys) in my divorce case. If you want the biggest Shyster in your Divorce, I strongly recommend Shawn Rudisel of the Law Offices of Shawn Rudisel. The “Sh” in Shawn must be for Shyster. I made the mistake of bringing my ending difficult/contested divorce to this attorney. He did absolutely nothing for my case and nickeled and dimed me to the tune of $12K, mostly in unfounded Discovery Charges, attending hearings to do nothing other than collect a $395 hourly fee. I came into his office and provided all the discovery needed in 2 hours. He billed for an additional 6 hours of Discovery of nothing. I was at a supplementing stage in the Discovery process. Additionally, he requested Discovery from me which was not presented to the opposing side, in order to not move the process forward and bill for nothing, and only presented it at last minute, to eat at the remaining retainer.
His paralegals will try to get one passed you in the bills. I noticed miscalculated / extended amounts on a bill which added to over $1K in charges. They were nonchalant about making a mistake. They had no choice but to correct it but if you aren’t checking your bill, there’s a good chance you will be overpaying. When I questioned him about “other” excessive billing Discovery charges, the Shyster got all defensive and had the guts to say that he would be billing me for his time to answer billing questions at approximately $400 dollars an hour! If this attorney forgives any charges, you can be sure he is more than making up for it somewhere else.
Some of the nickel and diming include billing you for receiving an email and for responding to an email, separately. As other Google reviewers noted, they do not always respond to your email communication. But you better believe you will be paying for them to receive them.
His paralegal does nothing and channels all the low-level legal work to this Shyster so he can bill you out at a higher rate. If you question the Shyster about why he needed to do this work, he will tell you he wanted to know more about the area or some other BS. He has a well-oiled blood-sucking operation going on, so be prepared for what you are stepping into. You may be the next one getting reamed. This attorney also withheld financial information from the opposing party.

It is also worth mentioning, this is an example of an attorney that is rated high on AVVO with a 10 rating and 18 positive reviews. Please note AVVO is a marketing tool and makes it extremely difficult to give an Attorney a low rating or anything less than a good review.
I am sure he can file the pleadings and motions in an easy uncontested divorce or other easy legal matter like any inexperienced attorney. If you need an Attorney that is going to get results for you, stay away from this one or if you hire him to make sure that your retainer agreement is very specific about what is billable and allowable and what support they need to provide for charges.

The best advice would be:
1). Require in writing in your retainer agreement, that any disagreement regarding fees must be mediated by both parties through the Houston Bar Association.
2) Do not hire this thief, but if you do, have another attorney review the retainer agreement. CAVEAT EMPTOR
3) If this Shyster doesn’t agree to the above, you have your answer.

I highly recommend Mr Rudisel, he is very knowledgeable and professional, he has an amazing staff that treat you with respect. They helped guide me through a difficult time. It is not easy to find a good attorney, I recommend Mr Rudisel not only because of his experience but also for his interpersonal ability to help through a time of frustration. I recommend this Law Firm to everyone!

Sean made my divorce process so easy and dare I say, enjoyable. The process took longer that expected, through no fault of his own. But he remained committed and fully present through it all. I was short on funds, in the middle of a move with my toddler and had very short notice of a lawsuit coming my way. Angel was the first person I had contact with and she knew everything that I needed to do, she and Attorney Rudisel were in constant contact with me and walked me through every question I had. Not only did Attorney Rudisel and his staff work with my finances, he took my case on without question and completely turned my case around. I walked out with the best outcome imaginable.

So paid $1 per page so that we could finally receive a copy. No reimbursement from firm either.

I am very pleased with Mr. Rudisels’ handing of my divorce. From the very first meeting, Shawn took the time to answer all my questions - no matter what, or when I asked them. He gave his honest opinion and best guesstimate on a timeline - which, despite my doubts, has proven to be spot on!!

While the matter of divorce is in actuality a routine business for him, it is a very real, painful, highly emotional, and difficult fight for the client going through it. Shawn always had a genuine bedside manner (for lack of a better term) and never made me feel like just another case number. He always gave solid legal advise to calm my fears which were stirred up by OC, and broke things down so this non-attorney could understand how things operate. Shawn screwed up my divorce beyond belief. His entire firm is grossly incompetent and unprofessional. After paying this guy a 5k retainer several months went by and my wife was never served papers. I inquired with Angel to find out why and she made it sound the courts were still reviewing the paperwork which I later found out was a lie. Shawn missed several mediation dates. At one of the mediation I was at and Shawn was a no show Shawn had Angel call the mediator and told him to go ahead and start mediating which as you can imagine was a total disaster. Shawn was late to every court appearance. I fired Shawn and hired a real lawyer and that really brought into focus what a terrible experience I had with the Rudisel law firm.

Angel , the paralegal, is completely unprofessional. She does not seem to be knowledgeable at all, she makes careless mistakes, she does not get things done when she says she will, and she does not return phone calls or reply to even the most straightforward questions emailed to her. My original attorney creeped me out and I discontinued his service two days before temporary hearings. I was referred. to Shawn I called the day before my temporary orders. Shawn accepted my case that same night, and defended me in court the next day.

My opinion is based off my family case I hired the RUDISEL LAW FIRM to handle for me in 6/2012, I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND HIRING THIS LAW FIRM. I was treated VERY disrespectfully from the ENTIRE firm. I was talked down to like a child, multiple times called "princess" while being screamed at to change my attitude. So on & so on. Different phone calls & instances this is how I was treated by the entire firm. I paid this firm thousands of dollars while they only worked off a 1/3 of what they were paid. This firm manipulated me, lied to me, basically stole my money while verbally confirmed that I "will not be getting my $1500 back", (this was shouted at me on the phone). I didn't ask for their phone bill, but was charged $400 when I complained of their lack of communication w/me. This charge was justified as so, "reflects times spent researching the phone records to validate the phone calls we made to you." I had to hire another attorney to finish what the Rudisel Law Firm wouldn't properly finish, keeping my money. The Rudisel Law Firm were the following to me: rude, manipulative, untruthful, unorganized, lacks communication, immature, mentally & verbally abusive, condescending and definitely unprofessional. Yes, legally they completed only a portion of my case. But I didn't hire them to rob me and treat me that horrible. The Rudisel Law Firm has killed my trust for lawyers. Is there an ethics committee or some form of repercussions that can be taken against people like this? This law firm might not treat all of their clients the way they did me, but I DID get treated with absolutely NO respect as their client who is paying for their bills.
