On my own I attempted to adopt my son who I raised since he was 1 years old. I thought it would be cut and dry but quickly learned that legalities and law does not make things as easy as I thought. I am an adult adoptee and needed family medical information. I had already figured out who my parents and birth families were though DNA testing and extensive research. Kim and Erica were able to be appointed intermediary, unseal the entire adoption record and case notes, obtain my original birth certificate, and death certificates with cause of death for both my biological parents. Long story short, I had raised my son for years as his stepmother but really wanted to become his legal mother, and since his Bio mom had not seen him in nearly 8 years I thought it would be a good time to go for custody.
