I had an SSDI case involving back and leg issues. I thought I had a good claim that was listed in the blue book and I would get approved at the initial application phase. Yes, I actually believed that. I was so very wrong and it turned into a daunting long long wait. (Over 1½ years AFTER my reconsideration denial.) I tried on my own to go through the initial application process and then the reconsideration process. Both of those were rejected just like most people are. Surprisingly enough, someone from Social Security gave me Mia's name and a few other attorneys names. Thankfully I went with Ms. Cloud.
This is the difference between a small personal firm and some giant 'big box' firm. You get individualized attention and you have one attorney to work with.
Watching Mia work was like watching Jon Snow face the entire Bolton army. One small, but fierce, person facing off against a hostile judge with a nasty reputation and the thundering herd of bureaucracy, legalese and procedural processes. This was Mia. Her sword was her meticulous notes and impeccable memory. Her spirit was courageous and unwavering and her caring for her clients is the driving force in facing down a federal judge and the bureaucracy that comes from an SSDI case. At my hearing, my ALJ was known for being difficult, direct, and also very meticulous. She hammered me with questions left and right and was constantly questioning every trip, doctor visit, radiology report, surgical note and past treatments. Thankfully Mia had pages of notes on my case and was able to answer the judge and give pushback, dates, exhibits and refer back to past treatments all pretty much from memory. Mia knew my case and the dates, treatment and radiology summaries pretty much by heart. I honestly believe this was the difference. Mia cared and was invested in my case. I wasn't just another client to her, I was family. I was the most important person to her and that attention to detail and that fierce demeanor of not backing down and fighting for me was amazing to watch. Whereas most people wait months to get a decision, I had one in 3 days. I got a fully favorable decision and they went back 4 years for my disability. If I had any other attorney, I don't think they would have had that same level of caring, attention to detail or willingness to not back down. You never know what type of judge you are going to get, but you can at least know what type of attorney you can get. Mia Cloud will definitely fight for you! I encourage you though to consult with her before you even apply. She can guide you on what you need to do to hopefully get you approved much sooner. I wish I had contacted her way back then.
