Our company was winding down. I had worked in the office for over 35 years but had no clue about what my Severance could, or rather should be as there was such diverse scenarios when I asked friends for advice or, like most people would do, when I searched online. It was confusing. Could not ask for guidance from our corporate law firm as it would be a conflict of interest on their part. They did, however, refer me to Sara Forte and her firm. I sent her an email explaining my situation and was pleasantly amazed at how quickly she responded to me.

From that initial reply, to telephone conversation, to setting up a meeting with her associate (Pamela Costanzo), Sara made me feel very at ease. As soon as I walked into their office, I felt welcomed. My session with Pam was tremendously informative and encouraging. After a brief introduction, what she said next absolutely made me feel that I had made the right decision to seek help from this firm. She said, "I am Not going to let you leave this office until you feel confident in how to approach your Severance with the company." She had done her research prior to our appointment and showed me the closest scenario to my situation. She could find no exact match given all my criteria but she gave me advice on how to talk to the company reps during my meeting with them to discuss figures, showing them back-up information, and specifically to do so as amicably as possible. And, I'd like to note, that at no time (with Pam or Sara) was I intimidated by "legal speak" that many lawyers I've encountered in business tend to use often with an air of superiority. Everything was explained in easily understandable terminology and I felt I was treated as an Equal, not as an inferior.

I took Pam's advice, politely let the reps know I had sought legal consultation, and with the confidence she instilled in me, the company meeting went well. A figure was agreed upon and I can say without a doubt, I could not have done this without Pam's (and Sara's) help.
