PS: After quiet reflection, I have edited the above to remove any phrases that were unfair. Also, I have increased the rating from 1 star to 2 stars because, although I did have a bad customer experience and he refused to make it right or even apologize, he was actually competent. I have rated 2 other lawyers in the area as 1 star because of rudeness and irrefutable incompetence, but my previous rating of 1 star made no sense because I did actually find Chris Gillette to be competent.
PPS: I totally refute the remarks Chris has made in the response to the above criticism. I have in fact dealt with Chris personally. It was in 2008; multiple meetings for multiple hours.
My first obvious disappointment was to discover the attorney Chris Gillette was a different individual than the famous alligator wrestler Chris Gillette. However, after receiving the bills for Chris' time at $300 /hr, I understand why he studied law rather than tangle in the rowdy ring with a writhing reptile.
I found the divorce process extremely confusing and Chris really didn't help make it any clearer. I would imagine most people would find the process confusing unless they've done it a few times; in which case they would probably have other issues. I had very, very specific questions and I didn't get many clear answers other than some maybes. I never felt like I understood the process or how it would work. I emailed Chris several times asking for an update and never received one. It felt like I was pestering him more than anything, except, oh, wait, I was paying him $300 /hr. I will say, the office staff is amazing at forwarding email attachments with little to no explanation of what they mean. Them: "Attached is a document for your records." Me: "Oh, of course it's for my records because you're sending it to me. It would be really strange if it were for Rowdy Roddy Piper's records. What the hell does it mean and do I need to do something?" Them:
We had other issues as well, for example mediation. It was rescheduled not once, not twice, nor even thrice. That's right, we had 4 reschedulings. Oh well, I'd like to think that's not Chris' fault, except it kind of was. Had I known it was going to take that long, I might have considered joining the Gillette Shave Club to see if they could organize a mediation. (Alas, more disappointment to discover that Chris Gillette was not the founder of the Gillette Shave Club.)
We had a small issue regarding billing. I was willing to be charged for discussing RC planes; I sort of initiated that conversation. I was also ok with being charged time for mediation, despite the fact there was a lot of downtime and Chris attended to some other issues throughout that afternoon. However, the one tiny thing that annoyed me was when I was charged $165 for a boilerplate letter that contained 32 unique words, most of which were my name and address. Whoa.. it took an hour and a half to type 32 words and mail an envelope?! They ended up correcting that, but it was kind of annoying.
There were several other issues as well. All in all, the it seems as if there is not enough time available for the staff to properly manage the caseload.
He engages in defamation of character online and in court documents, stating lies about others to further his cause...
Your better on your own, then to hire this guy!!!! Feel free to message me on FB if you would like to know how bad he is. I know know of two single mothers in court with the same guy over rights of their kids. Turns out one using Chris has paid thousands and gotten no where the other is going it alone, and is finished and started over a year later!!!
