Made an appointment for a $100 consultation just to get a couple legal questions answered in regards to starting a business. I made it very clear that's all I needed. I don't need a lawyer, don't require representation. I was told the lawyer would be able to answer my questions. When I actually had the consultation the lawyer couldn't help me at all or answer a single question without me actually hiring him as my attorney and a $1500 retainer. The receptionist could have just told that and I wouldn't have paid $100 for 5 minutes just to get no questions answered. This is why lawyers get a reputation for being crooks! I feel they just stole $100 from me! Full disclosure.. they called me back and refunded my money after I had already given this review.

So our family has a small kids video business that we started about 10 years ago. We had filed and received trademark for “Marvelous Media.” So imagine our surprise, when after 5 years in business, we received notice that we were being threatened by a lawsuit from a Japanese company for our name. Lucky for us, Leonard DuBoff was an old friend of the family from the neighborhood.

He knows his stuff; he is the king of trademark and copyright law. Long story short, after a short exchange between Leonard and the Japanese, not only was the lawsuit withdrawn, we have a deal where we are paid an annual licensing fee for the use of a related name.

This is the craziest attorney visit I have ever had. First I call in for an initial consultation, at which point the receptionsist asks for a 100.00 deposit for the appointment. I let her know their web page said they are free. She said oh we will have to change that, I went ahead and paid her for a visit the following week. Today I get there and the same lady lets me know I will be meeting with the attorneys PA. The whole purpose for the visit was to meet the attorney and see if we would work together. I am hiring a business attorney for a fairly large business I own. So this was no small opportunity for them . To bad...

Mr. Duboff is an amazing man and an extremely knowledgeable litigator. I retained Mr. Duboff and staff to sue an auto restoration shop owner in June 2017. We won the lawsuit and the defendant was ordered to return my car, all parts, and pay $26,390 in fines and fees.

Although we won the lawsuit, I was charged over $40,000 in attorney fees and court costs that included $15,000 just for the one-day Arbitration Hearing. As part of the Judgment, Mr. Duboff requested the defendant be ordered to pay the $40,000 of my attorney fees and $1,800 in other expenses. The Arbitrator only awarded $15,500 of these attorney fees and stated in his decision: “… utilizing the senior partner plus four(4) attorneys plus a staff of four (4) paralegals does seem excessive to me in view of the lack of complexity of the case.” “… the preparation (attorney fees) for the TRO shows some overkill”. “… while I think the mediation, by mutual agreement, was commendable, it was not a necessary component for trial nor was it a requirement of prosecuting this case.” In regards to the Arbitration Hearing itself, the Arbitrator wrote “I am not sure why it took so many hours to prepare.” Mr. Duboff kindly agreed to waive $6,000 in fees, which was greatly appreciated.

Unfortunately, to date, the defendant has failed to comply with all court orders and I have never been reimbursed a dime. I've had to pursue additional legal action to obtain my car and hold the auto shop owner in Contempt of Court for failing to comply with the Award Judgment. Two days prior to one of my court appearances, I was informed Mr. Duboff pulled my attorney (Amanda) off my case, recommending at the last minute that I contact an attorney I had never met or worked with previously. I was able to represent myself for this particular appearance but found this decision very disconcerting. I retired from the Air Force after 30 years of service and we have a core value to never leave a comrade behind. I was greatly disappointed by the manner in which our business relationship ended.
