Brad and his team made a really tough process bearable and as smooth as possible. All my questions and concerns were always dealt with professionally and in a timely manner. Brad is both professional and personable. I highly recommend.

Unfortunately, just because a divorce is final does not mean you still won't need a good attorney. Fortunately, I have Brad Miller. I have been with Brad for several years and know I am in the best of hands. For me, having an attorney who is efficient and effective consistently puts my mind at ease. Brad embodies both of these traits. I also find Brad very personable, making it easier to speak with him during sometimes difficult times. In short, I recommend Brad as a strong choice as he is incredibly wise beyond his colorful socks.

I couldn’t recommend Brad more. He is kind, thoughtful, and insightful. It was such a relief to have him by my side. The knowledge that if the mediation became too confrontational or threatening I could turn everything over to Brad, allowed me to not feel trapped or cornered. I am sure this peace of mind enabled my ex-spouse and I to finish things in a cordial manner. I feel that Brad has a very strong ethical code, and for that I was very thankful.

As painful as a divorce is for anyone to go through I don't wish this on anyone - but this was about as painless a process as I could have envisioned. With the reputation that Brad and the Stahancyk firm have, I expected the process to be long and drawn out and potentially break the bank accounts with the process. My spouse and I had previously used a collaborative process which had come to a standstill, at which point I hired Jody and Brad. Soon afterwards it became apparent that we were really in agreement overall and had an avenue to settle. Brad and Jody really listened to what I wanted which was to resolve and get it done and did it very quickly and efficiently and I was amazed at the short amount of time it took to get the necessary documents, draw up the business documents, and file the paperwork. As amazing as it may seem, I found them fun to work with during this process. They are of the highest intelligence and obviously experience if you know anything about their general reputation, and combine it with a streetwise intelligence that is invaluable.

I highly recommend Brad Miller as a divorce attorney. He is very knowledgeable and thorough; finds every little thing in the long legal documents. His assistant, Glenn Johnson, is exceptionally bright and kind. Everyone in the office is friendly, professional and frankly fun to be around.
I was pleased with the whole process, the outcome, and the cost.

Brad is the best lawyer I have ever worked with. I have been involved in various legal situations and I have never experienced such consideration from a lawyer. He would check in with me multiple times a day, made himself available to me at all hours of the day and night, helped me arrange childcare, introduced me to like minded friends in the community. He went far beyond the call of duty and the final outcome of my case, which was very complicated, was fantastic. Brad fought for me and I would highly recommend him and any one else from this law firm as well. Stahancyk, Kent and Hook operate with a high level of integrity and humanity. I still feel like I am a part of their family.

Whatever you do...DON'T HIRE AN ATTORNEY FROM THE FIRM Stahancyk, Kent & Hook

In short, Brad's firm sued me for not paying my bill. I didn't pay my bill because I noticed I was billed for a court appearance that didn't happen and refused to pay. This prompted me to closely examine my billing. I noticed a LOT of discrepancies, so I counter sued, and I won. The court ordered the firm of Stahancyk, Kent & Hook to pay me. I've seen two other clients billings, one from 2006, and one from 2014 (mine was 2007-2009) and they had the same kind of "inappropriate billing" (according to the court).

If you were a client of Brad Miller or Stahahcyk, Kent & Hook, look for cover letters saying something like, "Enclosed are documents from someone. Please let me know if you have questions". Then compare it to the billing and you'll notice that you were charged .3/hour by Brad (or whatever attorney wrote the letter). In my case, in 2008 the amount billed for JUST the cover letter was $48. This also happened with Laurel Hook, a named partner and I was charged $90 for the same kind of cover letter. On a couple occasions, Hook had a clerk write the letter and bill it to Hook.

According to the Multnomah County Court, this is "inappropriate billing". The court found, "The billing records contain multiple instances of similar charges for cover letters or for activities associated with only a negligible amount of activity, chiefly reviewing incoming correspondence such as routine notices from the court." Also, "Sending a cover letter when forwarding copies of documents is a clerical activity. It does not require legal skill and, even if performed by a lawyer, is not appropriately billed as a legal service." Also, "In other instances the legal services engaged in are so clearly de minimus that I do not believe it would be within the contemplation of an ordinary consumer of legal services that they would merit a separate charge."

I filed multiple complaints through the Oregon State Bar about this and other seemingly unethical behavior. After four years, Ms. Hook was given a Diversion Agreement, the equivalent to a slap on the wrist, and it won't go on her record, so future clients won't know about it. So far, Brad Miller has been protected by the Bar. That...I'm still working on and I will prevail in the end.

This kind of actions by attorneys hurt people and families...and it makes the lawyers rich.

Please, if this has happened to you, request the "Karr file" from the Oregon State Bar and see for yourself what happened to me and my family. Then check your records and see if it happened to you. If it did, file a complaint with the Bar, feel free to use my complaint as a guide.

I hope you're able to find an attorney who will truly represent you, and your families best interest :)
