Roulet Law presented an excellent webinar on 1-9-19 through CPA Academy on the subject of "Estate Planning Boot Camp: The Basics of Estate Planning for Non--Lawyers", The presentation was very clear and very informative. It was one of the best presentations that I have ever attended.on the related subject.

I have been an Enrolled Agent ( a professional designation granted by the IRS) for over 28 years. My work has involved some estate issues and many "creditor" (ie. the IRS) issues. In a one hour webinar Charles Roulet explained and discussed many ways of structuring the transfer of estate assets through designation of beneficiaries and trusts. His explanation of planning opportunities available to clients was excellent. I wish he practiced law in Georgia so that I could refer clients to him !

I recently attended a webinar that Chuck did regarding estate planning. Even though I'm a CPA and thought I had a pretty good handle on this area I was amazed to learn how little I really knew. Learned a lot on webinar this morning, thanks!

I decided I needed to write this review to warn future clients of possible problems setting up a TRUST, which was not the right decision for my particular situation for the following reasons:
1. I found out you can’t put retirement accounts, IRAs, pensions, etc. into a trust. However, most of my assets were in these types of accounts. So, it does not make a lot of sense for me to set up a trust with minimal assets in it.
2. I also discovered that I was expected to set up the trust myself [fund my own account]. This attorney gave me some general written instructions, forms, etc. on how to do this and said he would answer my questions but I had to actually figure out what assets should go into the trust, contact each financial institution, get deed changed to put home into a trust, etc. I also later noticed that among several documents I initially had to sign, there was a sentence somewhere that stated that, if mistakes are made, neither attorney nor law firm will be responsible. So, transferring assets into the trust is the client’s full responsibility.
3. My appointed trustee, after seeing the trust, no longer wanted to be the trustee. Complained that it was way too difficult: 150+ pages of complicated legal instructions. Whereas, if you just have the standard estate forms [Will, POA, Medical] its only about 15 pages.
4. I have been told that people needed a trust so they would have a designated guardian to handle affairs in case they become incapacitated. Well, a second attorney told me that it was not necessary to set up a trust for this. Instead, simply fill out a guardianship form when you fill out the other estate forms. She also told me that she would only charge around $5,000 if hired to go through probate instead of the $30,000 I was told it would cost to hire an attorney.
So I feel that I just wasted $5,000 setting up a trust for nothing.

Charles proved a very knowledgeable lawyer in the area of estate planning.

Estate Planning Bootcamp is the perfect class for non-lawyers! I am a CPA and have attended many estate planning classes. This was by far the most useful one. It was easy to understand and was the perfect amount of information I need to be able to speak intelligently with my clients without overwhelming me with more legal jargon than I need.

Roulet Law Firm presented a very cogent 1 hour webinar with valuable information for estate planning. There were several items that were presented that I had not considered and I will need to update my estate planning for medical concerns as well as continue to update my estate plan for any changes in the family structure.

Chuck's one hour Estate Planning Boot Camp was the best one hour webinar I have heard. He covered what is needed if your are incapacitated or pass away. Most importantly, by the end of the hour I actually knew what steps I needed to take. If I was in Minnesota, I would head straight for his office for my estate planning.
