I worked with Mr. Duquette afew months ago. All I can say is. This guy knows his stuff. He was very honest and dedicated to working on my case. His office team very polite. He even gave me a good reasonable price. Definitely worth it. I was stressed out and he sure everything worked out and got the case dismissed.

Richard's information was passed on to my wife from a couple of friends and cyclists in the San Diego area. I was in the hospital after being involved in a serious cycling accident, and neither my wife nor I had any idea what to do next. Mr. Duquette has published an article on his website that betrays his limited understanding of the California Vehicle Code, specifically CVC 21202(a) and the exceptions contained therein. I would not hire a bicycle attorney who actively purports an opinion contrary to the truth of the rights cyclists are supposed to enjoy in the state of California.
He promotes unsafe practices for cyclists and perpetuates a motorist-centric viewpoint, all while claiming to represent cyclists.
Specifically, he insists cyclists ride on the edge of a narrow lane (a specific condition in the CVC when a cyclist is NOT required to ride to the right).
He puts forth the notion that, somehow, riding on the edge is a protection against a rear-end collision from a distracted driver. There is no protection against a distracted driver that can be provided by hugging the edge of the lane.

I have had Richard represent me on two separate occasions. He is very meticulous and detail oriented on the exacts of the process in order to be successful. My mother was struck by a car while walking in a protected crosswalk about 2 years ago. A very good friend of mine used to work for Mr. Duquette and strongly recommended that I talk to him about my mother's case. Richard was very helpful from the first conversation, determined that he could help my mom and took on the case. My mother was faced with potentially 6-figure medical bills she could not afford to pay and a labyrinthine chain of linked insurance carriers on the car involved in the accident. Richard skillfully ferreted out the actual carrier, negotiated an excellent settlement with them and the driver, and applied the relevant law to substantially reduce my mom's liability for the medical bills in negotiations with the medical providers. Richard was consistently thorough, shrewd, persistent, industrious, unflappable, and extremely patient with my mom who was still recovering from head trauma as the case was taking place and frequently needed things to be repeated and re-explained. He was not merely eminently professional, but was a real bulldog in pursuing justice and fairness for my mom. I found that, in addition to his well-known experience, knowledge, and connections in traffic-injury litigation, he is adaptable, resourceful and a quick learner in approaching aspects of a case that he has not previously worked with. After being hit by a vehicle while cycling on El Camino Real, I was unaware of what the proper protocol was for a bike/car collision. Fortunately, a friend who came to the scene knew Richard L. Duquette and was able to contact him and find out what to do. Richard was more than I could have expected in terms of responsiveness. Before my friend had even had the chance to get me to the hospital, Richard was able to communicate clearly what information to gather and what pictures to take in order to document the incident.

I have been very involved in bicycle advocacy and education for the last five years, and have promoted bikes as healthy and practical transportation within San Diego. So when my girlfriend was hit by a driver who cut her off on her commute home, I asked around and Richard came very recommended.
Right away I was impressed by his range of knowledge and could tell that he puts a significant amount of work into each of his cases. He is hospitable and gets to know his clients while maintaining a very powerful position. He won't back down and he won't take any bullshit.
He was very accommodating. Being a working couple, we did not always have time to travel to Oceanside or front money for medical expenses involved in the case. Richard accommodated us and explained every financial and technical detail in an understandable way. He found my girlfriend medical care and examinations that could be incorporated into the case. He came to our neighborhood to get to know us, and he was very careful to develop trust.

I was charged with a DUI and I had no idea of the legal process that was involved or lay ahead of me. I am so fortunate that my close friend handed me Richards contact card to me. But not out of a stack of others but from his personal wallet, and told me to see this man and he will help you through this. I called the very next morning and Richard met me Saturday afternoon! In his office! Richard was influential in calming me down, educating me, and assuring me he could help me through this. On my DMV hearing, Richard even took his valuable time to go down with me to the hearing. It is this kind of commitment, and his many years of experience, along with Richard knowing all the points of my particular case and the law, that lead to a dismissal of my case by the DMV! This lead to my court case hearing and the negotiating a guilty plea to a reduced charge of a "Wet Reckless", not a DUI. The DUI charge was dismissed! This resulted in substantial reduced fines, probation period, and enrollment in an alcohol program for me.
