I have been very satisfied with the results from working with Mr Shea and the multiple hearing victories we had in the Medicaid case he worked on for our family. He’s very conscientious and attentive to his clients needs. He always went above and beyond in his responses to questions and guidance. I highly recommend him.

Richard Shea is a knowledgeable, patient and reliable attorney. My husband's Parkinsons reached the point where he needed to be in a nursing home. When it became necessary to apply for Medicaid, Richard guided me through the process with all its mazes and thorny points. He helped to cut my husband's nursing home and medical expenses to under $100 per month while saving us the $4000-$5000 it would have cost without Medicaid. I was also able to preserve over $30,000 when Rich helped to restructure my unprotected cash into a special annuity.

What impresses me the most about Rich is how accessible he is. Whenever I had a question or was pondering which course of action to take, a quick text or e-mail was all it took. He always answered promptly and with sound advice. It didn't matter how small or seemingly unimportant the question, he replied without making me feel foolish. He made me feel like we were a team working together for the best outcome. I highly recommend the Shea Law Firm.

Me Shea is fantastic. Extremely helpful with a complex issue and working through the infuriating bureaucracy of the Medicaid system. At the end of the day, we obtained benefits retroactive to before we even hired Shea Law on our nursing home billing. He was excellent and sorted through financial issues and government programs. We were also able to achieve this without invoking any spend down by my father in law’s spouse..

In addition, we slashed monthly nursing home cost from over $5,500 every month down to $0.00 out of pocket.

Shea Law will fight to have your family receive Medicare and Medicaid Benefits as the Legislature intended. The alternative is a lifetime of paying taxes only to have the benefits not applied because you cannot sort through the terribly confusing forms and structures while under time pressure during a difficult time. Very glad we found Mr Shea to work through this huge financial and time burden so professionally. Well done!

So yes, I very Highly recommend Shea Law for Elder Care Financial review.

Just tried to call and schedule a consultation, twice... got a line that rang several times, then went to voicemail, not even 2 p.m. on a Monday. Not a good first impression.

Mr. Shea is very knowledgeable about elder care and took care of everything from start to finish. Wading through government paperwork can be a daunting task. I could not have done it without him. He saved assets and avoided penalties that would have otherwise been lost. I highly recommend Mr. Shea.

I have used Mr. Richard Shea as a lawyer several times over the years. He wrote my mom's paperwork for Power of Attorney, DNR, and medical power of attorney. He even got the power of attorney written right so that it worked in both Louisiana (for a house closing and car sale) and Texas.

The last thing for which I used his services was nursing home medicaid. He gave me good advice as to how to proceed with the nursing home and was able to deal with all of the complexities with state nursing home medicaid, including getting her approval done quickly without requiring any hearing. He also gave good advice on paying bills so that I did not overpay for medical services.

Overall, I've had good experiences with The Shea Law Firm and would recommend him as an Attorney for Elder Law.

My sister and I researched the Medicaid Application process for our brother and realized it was more complicated than we were comfortable handling on our own. We talk with three different elder care lawyers and quickly decided The Shea Law Firm (Rich) was the one for us. This was one of the best decisions we made. It was well worth the costs. Rich provided different scenarios for us to choose from that best fit our brother’s situation. Most everything was handled via email. Thanks to Rich’s expertise, it took a little over three months to obtain approval.

Very rude. Tried to call just for a consultation regarding my disabled grandmother needing help to get accepted for Medicaid and to help regarding legal information regarding how to protect her assets. He was immediately dismissive when told that she only owns one house that was apparently not valued at a high enough value to pique his interest. He didn’t even give us time to tell him my family planned on paying his rates. He wouldn’t even tell us his rates and automatically assumed we couldn’t afford him. Definitely disappointed considering he was so highly rated.

Like many other families, we were faced with decisions that we really didn’t think we would need to make… my Dad’s dementia was deepening and my Mom, his Caretaker, was beginning to rapidly fail herself.

It came to the point I knew my Dad needed more care than what my Mom was capable of providing. It needed to be done quickly and correctly. Frankly, I was worried my Mom would pass before my Dad.

My parents are retired school-teachers. That means they are not rich, but they do have income. It certainly means they do not have the money for Nursing Home care that my Dad needs, and for that matter, my Mom needed for him to have.

I knew that trying to do the paper work and application for Medicaid was far beyond my ability and know-how. I recognized at that point we needed an Attorney to handle this for us.

I looked for a nearby attorney and found Richard Shea. This was one of the best decisions made in this difficult junction of our lives.

Richard reviewed everything carefully…. He answered questions timely… He worked as a partner with our family.

We are so grateful we hired him…it turns out that one of the accounts my mom had saved money through her job, would have been at risk if we had made the application first. Richard identified the situation and made suggestions on how to restructure it, which we did. While the amounts would not seem large to most people with an IRA or Pension, it was huge for my mom, and meant a lot to her monthly income. This one detail, more than paid for Richard’s fee.

My Dad is in a great facility. My Mom is able to relax and reclaim part of her life because she doesn’t have the heavy burden of caring for my father any longer. She can sleep at night and not have to worry if my Dad was going to get out of bed and turn on the stove and burn the house down! (He actually came close one time.) She is actually getting healthier. During her last check-up, her doctor told her he was pleased with her resurgent health.

I cannot recommend Richard enough. He is well worth his fee since he will fill out the paperwork and handle the application process and deal with the questions from the Examiner. These are details that are nerve racking enough, let alone during a stressful time.

If you are faced with these decisions, I recommend you hire Richard to handle the details. You have enough stress as it is, let him handle the part you that you are not an expert in handling. You will feel a lot better that you did.

This is the attorney to go to if you need help getting your loved one on Medicaid. Both my mother and father needed to move to skilled nursing. One for dementia, and the other for complications of diabetes. We went to Rich Shea in late May. We decided to use June to get everything ready and break the news to our parents. They had been living in assisted living in the same facility. My parents moved to skilled nursing, and Rich began the "Medicaid Pending" on July 1st. All the month of July, we collected documentation for him to submit to HHSC. He told us everything we needed to do. Aside from the initial meeting in person, we handled everything he needed from us via email, along with the attachment of documents he needed for our case. He patiently answered all of my many questions. On August 1st, he filed our case with HHSC. On Sept 6th our case was approved and our parents had Medicaid. That was a fantastic turnaround of five weeks. Rich is a good person and he tells you everything you need to know and do. Trust him to do it the right way. We are very satisfied with the whole interaction we had with him.

Nursing homes, Long term care, asset protection, Medicaid application and qualification are all very complex and related topics. Much of what you have heard or researched could be inaccurate or confusing. Finding a professional with Rich Shea's qualifications and standards is very important. I had struggled thru two medical and related care events and was looking for a better strategy to help ease the financial and care complexities we were dealing with. I originally spoke with Rich on the phone, followed by a face to face meeting. We reviewed a lot of detail regarding our medical care and financial matters, and Rich was able to provide a clear and practical approach for our situation. I always felt our case was complex and potentially messy, Rich handled every aspect cleanly and precisely. I feel the best thing for anyone dealing with these topics is to obtain professional representation. Contact Rich Shea and you will get the best advice available. Thank you Rich.

Thank you, Richard Shea! You helped me sort through the issues with Texas Department of Human Services that worried me to pieces. You guided me with the steps I needed to take so I can continue receiving attendant care. You helped me plan what I need to do for the future. Thank you!

My mother was in assisted living, had a crisis, and had to move to long term care. The cost was incredible. We inquired about Medicaid and found the application overwhelming. We found Mr. Shea online, met with him at his office and started the process to qualify my mother for Medicaid. Mr. Shea's instructions were concise, his responses to questions were prompt, he responded when there were "hiccups", did not get impatient with my own frustrations, and got my mother qualified. Thank you, Richard Shea.

Four years ago, my mother had a stroke. I desperately needed help with nursing home issues and how to fund my mom's care. Before finding Mr.Shea, I met with two other law firms. From our first contact, Mr. Shea treated me as if I were a family member and he quickly coordinated my mother's care. In addition to his professionalism, Mr. Shea is very understanding, easy to work with and always available to answer questions. This is the only aspect of my mother's care that I have not had to worry about or lose sleep over. I strongly encourage anyone needing legal advice to contact Mr. Shea.
