I pled "not guilty" for the first time in my life on a bogus "failure to stop at a stop sign" ticket. I hired Frank Alvarez and paid $85. My first two court dates were rescheduled by the court, I was told by someone in his office. For the second rescheduling of my court date, the employee at Frank Alvarez could not tell me the new date. Ridiculous! They claimed that they had sent me a notice in the mail twice, but there was never a notice received. So, they lied. The elderly receptionist who works there hardly represents a law office because she is absolutely rude, combative, and speaks in a very uneducated manner. One day before the final court date, someone from his office calls me around 5:30pm and informs me that I have a court date the next day at 1. Who does that? When I expressed to her my surprise at such as short notice, she tells me that someone mailed me a notice. Lying once again! When I met Alvarez's rep at court, she tells me that the deal is for me to pay the court cost of $150. Then she mentioned that I would be on deferred adjudication. Couldn't I have done that myself and have saved myself $85? When I asked her what was the difference of me hiring a lawyer and me doing this myself, she said that it would not be on my record. Uh, no. I could have pled "no contest" and could have requested deferred adjudication myself. Then she says that the police had a picture of me on record and shows it to me. It's a picture of me stopped at the stop sign. So I asked, "What does this picture show? It shows me stopped at a stop sign."
So, if Alvarez couldn't dismiss a simple stop sign ticket that was wrongly assigned and the picture shows no proof of me passing a stop sign, then you don't want to go to him for more difficult cases. STEER CLEAR OF FRANK ALVAREZ.
