My husband and I met Chad and Kelly almost 4 years ago when we needed a lawyer to help me obtain a Green Card. I’m from Canada and we had only recently married. When my mom was 2 years old, she came to America with her family. Back then, immigration terms and documents were... different then they are now. The green cards were actually green. They had 7 numbers instead of 9. Magnetic strips weren't a thing yet, so they couldn't be scanned. And perhaps most significantly, they never expire. So Mom kept the same card she had, with the photo updated once as a teenager.

Time passes. Mom gets a letter requiring her to apply for Social Security. Which she does... and is denied. Why? Because they couldn't figure out how to scan her green card.
