We have referred numerous clients to attorney Shurden for long-term care planning and have received only positive feedback about the exerience. Attorney Shurden is very knowledgeable and has a very good demeanor with clients. We have no hesitation referring people to him.
Walt Shurden and his staff helped us through a very difficult period in our life. He was able to efficiently achieve medicaid status for my mother in law. She needed to be placed in a long term facility. In addition to this, Mr. Shurden helped my husband and myself through the probate process for my brother in law. Their office is sensitive to the profound grief and the needs that envelope these times. Walt Shurden is very professional and his expertise in the laws of elder care and asset protection and planning were so helpful. I recommend them with absolutely no reservation. They are outstanding in their field and we are grateful to have had their guidance

Kathy was a huge help to me and my grandfather as we sorted out his finances. It was a process. Despite being very busy they always remained helpful and we accomplished what we set out to do. Would recommend to other elders and their families!

Attorney Shurden has no people skills and this was a waste of $300.00 He comes across as rude and does not like to repeat himself. The information he provided was not appropriate at the time. If you need someone that is compassionate about your situation during this difficult time of long term care for your elder Walt is not the place to find it.

Attorney Shurden and his team helped me settle my grandfathers estate. They answered all my questions and made this very confusing process easy to understand. I will be forever grateful and highly recommend them to anyone in need of his service.

My mother loved this guy. I don't. When she was alive she told me when she passes, immediately call Mr Shurden's office. She told me everything was arranged and he will make everything go smoothly. I called his office the day after she died. I talked to a lady and told her my mother passed away. She didn't say sorry for your loss or anything of that nature. She just said get a death certificate and make a appointment. Very rude. Just what I needed the day after my mom passes, a rude person. I didn't even know how to get a death certificate, and it was obvious she wasn't going to help. No help at ALL. Acted annoyed when I called again with questions. It just annoys me that he had my mom so convinced he was going to be a phone call of help, after she passes.... tell us exactly what we need to do.

Walt Shurden is exactly the guy you want to talk to for advice on how help your parents. He did not steer me toward engaging his services in a paid capacity at this time. He did give me lots of great advice and some leads on where to go to help my mother deal with Medicaid, assisted living, trusts, etc. He was very gracious and generous with his time and his counsel. I'm glad I called him.

I am privileged to be in charge of my mother's affairs as she is in now in an assisted living situation. Attorney Shurden was recommended to me by my bank as an Elder Lawyer who could aid me in protecting her assets. Attorney Shurden offered a opportunity to come in for a free consult. During this visit I found him to be very knowledgeable regarding Elder Law and able to allay any concerns. There was no need to change anything that had been previously implemented. If I find any need to make any adjustments I would definitely seek his advice..

We went to Walter for a consult concerning Medicaid. He was kind, extremely knowledgable, efficient and trustworthy. He gave us excellent advice and we would absolutely use him again if the need arose.
After hearing horror stories of eldercare lawyers, Walter was a breath of fresh air, honest, smart and user friendly. We HIGHLY RECOMMEND HIM!

Two years ago my brother and I consulted with Mr. Shurden concerning an issue with our mother. that went well and we were very happy with the professionalism and service provided. So last week when I was in need of additional legal help for my mother I again contacted Mr. Shurden's office and made an appointment for this week. I took the morning off from work and made sure I left in plenty of time to pick up my mother from her ALF and have her in his office in time for our scheduled appointment at 9.
We arrived almost 10 minutes early in Mr. Shurden's waiting room which seems to be isolated from the rest of the office. I rang the bell that's left sitting out and his admin person came out to greet us. I let her know we were there for a 9am appointment with Mr. Shurden. She seemed a little surprised to see us but told us to have a seat and she would let Mr. Shurden know we were there. After almost 25 minutes, 20 minutes into our scheduled appointment time, we were still waiting. Nobody came out to explain anything or let us know why we were not meeting Mr. Shurden as scheduled at 9. At that point my Mom and I decided this was not the attorney we wanted and we got up and left.
I know from previous experience that Mr. Shurden is a competent attorney and was professional in his previous dealings with us. However in today's society it seems very common that we, as customers, are expected to respect somebody's time when we make an appointment. Frequently we do not get the same courtesy in return. That may not be what happened here but I got the distinct impression that we were somehow forgotten on this particular morning.
I did get a call from the admin assistant shortly after we left Mr. Shurden's office. It wasn't clear to me why we were left waiting and she seemed taken aback that we had walked out. From my perspective this appointment was no small investment; taking off of work for the morning and getting my 82 year old mother from the ALF to an appointment (she uses a walker and is in great pain getting in and out of a car). I gave Mom and myself over an hour to make sure we were on time. Because we had an appointment and arriving late is not an option (I'm also retired military so the on time thing is ingrained). I want a lawyer that believes our time is just as valuable as his. So we voted with our feet and I'm now looking for a different elder law attorney.

Walter Shurden was of invaluable help in guiding me through the Aid and Attendant process for my veteran Dad. He spent a lot of time explaining the process of filing and requirements to receive benefits owed to both my elderly parents. I would recommend him to anyone.

Walter Shurden is a very knowledgeable, experienced, and caring lawyer. In our case he created our trust, wills, power of attorney, etc. He asks questions to help all of us determine our needs. During this exchange he explained the different scenarios and pitfalls we could run into in life as we grow older and eventually pass.. He reviewed each document item by item, fully explaining what and why, tweaking if necessary as we go. He further explains how these documents work with state and federal programs to ensure our needs, desires and estate will be handled in each scenario. His services are very thorough and are at a fair price. We feel he is in our corner every step of the way as we walk through this quagmire of life with all its myriad of laws and bureaucracy. We now have more peace of mind. Thank you
