I do not advise anyone hiring this attorney. They will take your money, make you feel like they're going to get something done for you, and then not return your phone calls. Not good. People in Bankruptcy are in enough fear as it is. They don't need someone who is supposed to be their advocate not communicating with them . BEWARE!

I retained this attorney 5 months ago to file "a simple Chapter 7 Bankruptcy". I only heard from him after I called HIM and left several messages-3 months later when he requested that I pay the "filing fee to get a court date". Well that was 6 weeks ago and needless to say, I still haven't heard anything about a court date and after sending 2 emails and leaving 6 messages, I've gotten no response. This is really unacceptable and unprofessional!! If Brett Elam couldn't handle my case, he shouldn't have taken my money. If it was too much trouble, or he was "swamped with work" after the fact -as his secretary said
.then he should've returned my retainer and fees. I am very upset and angry. I want to know what my recourse might be???

I made the awful mistake of recommending Mr. Elam to my mother when she was considering Bankruptcy. He required full payment up front. After about a month and a half, my mother decided to not proceed with the bankruptcy. I called the office numerous times, wrote e-mails, etc. to see if we could get a refund - after all, they only did 2 things on my mother's file: 1) immediately cash her check, and 2) give us the stack of form for her to complete. Mr. Elam never had the decency of calling back or responding. We would have been happy with some kind of pro-rated refund for the time they spent to cash the payment and provide us with the forms, but unfortunately nothing happened.

My family hired The Law Offices of Brett A. Elam in May after our mortgage company made errors in our mortgage payment. We were desperate and needed help fast. I deeply regret not spending more time doing additional research on a few other law firms before hiring Mr. Elam's firm.

Brett A. Elam requires you pay his entire fee upfront which should have been my first big red flag. Once that fee was paid Mr. Elam would take days to return emails and texts. My wife sent an email previously and it took him 3 days to get back with her.

I reached out to Brett A. Elam on the morning of Wednesday 6/27/13 inquiring about our case. We hadn't heard from him in a while and we wanted an update. I waited patiently for 24 hours and never heard back. I sent Brett A. Elam a second email on 6/28/13 telling him this was not acceptable and that I was going to be writing a review about his services. I would say towards the end of the day I got a very troubling email back which included this:

"First, I was on vacation and returned last night. I have just now returned to my office. Second, this is absolutely the last email you will send me like this, am I crystal clear? I will respond when I get to my office and get tomorrow this matter." -Brett A. Elam

The first thing that struck me was his grammar. The last sentence didn't even make since and we just paid him a lot of money to handle our case. The second thing is how he spoke to me. We hired the The Law Offices of Brett A. Elam not the other way around. And most importantly, if Brett A. Elam was on vacation why wasn't there an autoreponder letting people know at the very least or a secretary managing his account during his absence? What would have happened if our mortgage company would have reached out during his vacation?

The bottom line, I should have taken more time and researched my options before hiring The Law Offices of Brett A. Elam
