Proceed with caution! Many of the times people are in a vulnerable state when considering an asset protection plan or a trust. Our best advice is to get a second opinion before signing. Whether what they are selling is really what is best for your own personal situation doesn't matter...they are a business and they will take your money. The whole process is like an assembly line, seminar, collect money, change information on templates, print templates, put in a nice binder, wash, rinse, repeat. The next step is where it all falls apart...and of course only that happens after they have collected their fees. We are 6 months into the trust process. Multiple times forms have been sent to insurance companies with missing information, Power of Attorney forms have been sent out with incorrect names on them, questionable short cuts have been made. Check and double check what you are signing...don't assume it is correct. Beware Claudia De Jesus can be confrontational, she is pleasant until she is not! Her work is reactive not proactive. This process could have been completed within 30 days with a little foresight and proper attorney recommendations. Needless to say our experience with Claudia has not been a good one. We have left several messages with The Mattar Firm but, as of yet, we have not received a response to our concerns.

The Mattar Firm has been understanding and very informative. They did explain over and over again until I understood what was going on. A trust is much different than a will. I now have a peace of mind knowing myself and my loved ones are protected and taken of. I love how I am in control at all times.
Everything has just been perfect! They really explain everything and made this process easy. I rate them 10 out of 10. Not 5 stars. They are just great!

In my opinion, false advertising and deception to convince clients that with Mattar's "special trust", assets can be hidden to qualify for Medicaid. Not so. We were denied twice by Medicaid.

What was said to us during a meeting, and what was said to me in subsequent emails were polar opposites. The attorney we were working with was duplicitous and insulting. I wrote down her words verbatim during our personal meeting, but after the process started, her words changed. We wasted four-hours of our time; luckily no $ changed hands - but that’s because we were told to do the work ourselves. In a later email, I was told that I ”...refused their services because of $.” We never received a fee schedule, although this woman repeatedly told me her version of our meeting. I was a legal secretary - I know what a fee schedule looks like, and I brought my checkbook with me with every intention of engaging her services.//Apparently, the $5000 that she said it would cost for her to file an application would have just been the beginning. “...you can do it yourself online....,” only to find out that my husband did NOT qualify. But her words had been, “he IS...eligible.” She rephrased the sentence a few weeks later. “He MAY be...” She had all of our worksheets, she had all of our 1099s for this tax year. She HAD to know that we needed a ‘special income trust,’ but those words never came out of her mouth. That would’ve probably been another $5000. Our nurses and our social worker told us that my husband would not qualify. Claudia never mentioned ‘special income trust.’ She told me that I could complete the application online. Before she rebutts with the accusation that I made a mistake, our social worker, who does these routinely, filed online for us but advised me that she didn’t think we would qualify. The SW was correct. Given the income figures put in front of Claudia, she should have initiated the ‘special income trust’ conversation. I had to call DCF to find out what that was. The atty never mentioned the ‘special income trust.’ She dismissed us, knowing that we had too much income to qualify, but not enough assets to make us interesting enough to work with.//She will argue you into the ground. Her expertise was moot, and her lack of information in the long run invalidated our application because we were given a short turn around time to get the ‘special income trust’ taken care of. We’re going to work with another attorney that has done work for us in the past with the hope that I can get this completed before my knee replacement at the end of April.//The day of our meeting, we received a letter from The Mattar Firm rebuking us for not choosing to work with them. It was actually a hostile letter that stated we chose to not set an appointment after their seminar. I retrieved the letter from my mailbox after we returned from THE meeting in their office - the same meeting where she told ME to file the application online. This woman had no intention of working with us.//They are an assembly line. The fact that I’m dealing with a husband with dementia and am stressed to the max did not appeal to her compassionate side to help me ‘...cope during a time of crisis...,” as their website states.//For $3500 less, we had the necessary documents drawn up by an atty that we have used in the past, have been approved by three different departments, bank account opened, and are waiting for a bed to open up. The Mattar firm is very condescending.

The Mattar Firm helped save my family’s assets after my grandfather entered long term care. The Mattar Firm made sure our family was cared for during the Medicaid application process and walked us step by step through the meaning of a trust.
