Kerry Chipman was referred by my union assistance program to represent my partner in a case. Worst experience possible dealing with an attorney. The man was misleading, dis honest and the perfect example of bait and switch. Not only will we be reporting him to the state bar but we will be going to small claims court filing a petition with documentation proving he did not do his job ethically and creating bills and charges that he made to get extra money after the case was over, even though my partner has a signed contract agreeing to a flat rate for services. Walking into the court house with no attorney & no representing being at the mercy of the court, she would have received 90% of the exact same deal she got by hiring Mr. Chipman for $2000. Oh did I forget to mention that he showed up on to court date late & missed an opportunity to negotiate a deal with the DA because the DA was in court already due to scheduled times. I could go on and on but I will leave the rest of the information for the small claims court & the Oregon State bar to deal with this travesty of an attorney being biased & not forthcoming to their own client. We also have an email that Mr. Chipman sent of possible retaliation due to the fact that my partner reached out to my union for assistance in regards to her feeling as though she was being misrepresented as a client.

I was referred to this attorney by the modest means program in Oregon. When we first sat down, he started asking for money. I was confused because we hadn't talked about the case yet. He told me to get up and get out if I couldn't pay cash. I told him he was rude. He said if I didn't get out he would call the police. he said that in front of my 12 year old son and my mother. Don't waste your time!!!

He was referred to me by the Oregon state bar, which is unfortunate because I feel like my referral was wasted on this. He was rude on the phone when I called to see if he had openings, and very dismissive. Normally I wouldn't have even gone through with the appointment, but like I said, he was my referral from the Oregon State bar, and you only get so many of those.

The receptionist was rude as soon as I entered which was disappointing. I was looking for a business card for the lawyer I was about to see to find his email address to send him some documents. She didn't even look up from her computer and said "he doesn't have cards out here." and when I asked if she knew his email she said "no just ask him yourself." So I sat and waited for Kerry to come get us. He kept mentioning how cold I would be going into his old run down basement office. He asked for the money up front and handed over a receipt before he would say anything else to me. He glanced at my documents and basically told me I'm just out of luck. He suggested I bribe the person I'm considering pursuing a restraining order for to just go away. And while his advice may not have been the worst I've gotten, the way it was delivered was calloused, rude and dismissive. It was a waste of my time and his. He needs to just retire instead of continuing to collect money from people who are using the low income state bar referral program who really need the help he doesn't care to provide.

It seems clear he's just over it entirely and honestly no real help to anyone. If you have a choice in lawyers, I would recommend skipping this one and spending your money with someone who will at bare minimum be nice to you. Obviously people seeking out affordable lawyers are probably going through a rough time. Don't belittle them or laugh in their face when they come to you for help.

I honestly could not get a word in edgewise, through all of the condescension and mansplaining.

As an attorney, I have found Mr. Chipman to be professional and collegial.

He was unprofessional and lost my case. He lied to me regarding the results of the suit. He took 5k from me, a disabled woman. When I sent him a detailed letter of his shortcomings, he wrote back that he was helping me pro bono and that I was surely not going to pay him 3k more that he now wanted BECAUSE I WAS DISABLED, and this is how disabled people behaved, i.e. dishonorably. He finished his letter by firing me as his client. This was peculiar to me because I thought our business had been done for some time.
Don't hire him. If you've already done so, try to get a refund and run as far away as you can from this man.
I wish I could give him zero stars.

Kerry was very unprofessional on the phone, he would not listen to me he was raising his voice at me and he was not understanding at all do not use this attorney whatsoever good thing I just hung up the phone and ended it there!

Would put NO STAR IF I COULD! WOULD NOT RECOMMEND TO ANYONE! Walked in sat down with my wife. Made sure he had his money first. I Handed him legal docs. He looked them over and made a rude/ bias statement about our President of the United States. Should had ask for my money back and walked out right then . But didn't let him know my wife and I were not happy. But didn't expect much less we were in Portland. I Ask some ?? He Did a LOT OF JOKING ABOUT THE CASE .I WANTED HELP. INSTEAD HE SAID WE DIDN'T HAVE MUCH OF A CASE AND DIDN'T. ACT LIKE HE WANTED TO HELP EVEN AFTER I POINTED SOME OTHER THINGS OUT THAT WE WOULD LIKE SOME LEGAL HELP WITH. JUST KEPT LAUGHING THINGS OFF. AND THEN WE HAD A QUESTION TOWARDS THE END OF THE MEETING AND HIS RESPONSE WAS (OUT OF TIME NO MORE QUESTIONS. WE WOULD HAD BEEN MORE THEN HAPPY TO PAY FOR MORE TIME TO LET HIM KNOW ABOUT HOW WE HAD BEEN DONE WRONG. BUT HE DID SEEM TO CARE. CARED MORE ABOUT LOOKING AT HIS PHONE TO SEE IF HIS WIFE WAS CALLING .WE ONLY WERE ABLE TO ASK ABOUT HALF THE QUESTIONS we need to .BUT AGAIN DIDN'T SEEM TO CARE. BEWARE!!!

Not exactly the kind of person you want to hire very rude !
